Description of key information

This study was conducted for the Sponsor to evaluate the effects with Dilithium salicylate (MRD-17-136) on growth of the alga, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, in a 72-hour static dose-response test. This study was performed following the OECD 201 guideline (OECD, 2011).

The individual treatment solutions were prepared by adding the appropriate mass of test substance to 3L of dilution media in a 4.3 L glass aspirator bottle and stirring on a magnetic stir plate with a vortex of ≤ 10% of the static liquid depth overnight. The nominal loading rates were 0 (control), 21, 46, 101, 225 and 500 mg/L. The geometric mean concentrations were 23, 45, 98, 216 and 470 mg/L.

Based on growth rate, effects (mg/L) at 72 hours are as follows:

ErC10: 92 (90 - 95)

ErC50: 166 (165 - 168)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
166 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
92 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicities to algal growth were determined in GLP-compliant, static, freshwater tests following OECD guideline 201. In this study, the chemical confirmation of the test substance was based on analysis of the the total organic carbon (TOC). Nominal loading rates were 0 (control), 65, 108, 180, 300 and 500 mg/L. The geometric mean concentrations were 63, 101, 162, 285 and 493 mg/L. Based on growth rate, effects (mg/L) at 72 hours are as follows:

ErC10: 92 (90 - 95)

ErC50: 166 (165 - 168)

NOEC: 98

LOEC: 216
