Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Data on the acute toxicity of Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., ethyl esters (CAS 85049-36-1) to fish is not available. The assessment was therefore based on a study conducted with the structurally similar substance Isopropyl oleate (CAS 112-11-8) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification section 13.

The available study on Isopropyl oleate (CAS 112-11-8) was conducted as a limit test according to OECD guideline 203 (Bogers, 1997). The test was performed in a static system, using Cyprinus carpio as test organism. The fish were exposed to a nominal test concentration of 100 mg/L. The test solution was prepared with acetone as a pre-solvent. No mortalities were observed at any of the test concentrations, during the 96-hour test period. A LC50 (96h) > 100mg/l was reported. Thus, no toxicological effects on fish are expected up to the limit of water solubility for Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18-unsatd., ethyl esters (CAS 85049-36-1). The result is supported by a test performed by Loeb and Kelly (1963). In the static test Cyprinus carpio were exposed to the substance for 70 hours. A LC0 >= 118 mg/kg bdwt. based on mortality was observed.
