Emergency measure - Eyes: Irrigate eyes throughly with water for at least 15 minutes.
Seek medical attention if irritation develops.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash affected area throughly with copious amounts of soap
and water. Seek medical attention if irritation develops.

Fire-fighting measures
Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may include oxides of carbon,
nitrogen and some metal oxide smoke, with the possibility of
cyano compounds evolved.

Protective equipment: Protective clothing, eye and face protection and a self
contained breathing apparatus should be worn.
Accidental release measures
transfer to suitably labelled containers. Dispose of as
hazardous waste in accordance with local regulations.
Residues and minor spills may be washed with water, avoiding
run-off into water courses.
Protective clothing including suitable gloves, dust mask,
eye protection and coveralls should be worn as appropriate.
Handling and storage
gloves, eye/face protection, dust mask and coveralls are
recommended when handling the substance.
As the substance exists in a dry form, precautions should be
taken to reduce the possibility of dust formation. Suitable
ventilation should be applied to the working area.
The chemical nature of the substance indicates that there is
little potential for a dust explosion. However, handling
precautions should include measures to prevent ignition of
any dust from static discharge.
Storage: Store dry under ambient conditions.
Low levels of butanol may be released in the vapour form
when heated in enclosed spaces. It is therefore recommended
that storage is in a well ventilated place away from direct
sources of heat or other points of ignition.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The substance will be imported in pre-weighed
polypropylene/polyethylene containers of less than 10 kg. It
is transferred to the reactor through a gate valve.

Stability and reactivity
Avoid heating in enclosed spaces as may lead to the
evolution of butanol which is highly flammable.
Chemical reaction with water: None which is hazardous.
Dust explosion: The substance is considered to have a high dust content but
the chemical nature would suggest that a dust explosion is
improbable.
However, like many organic solids, under certain
circumstances the potential for a dust explosion cannot be
ignored and precautions to prevent the generaton of dust is
recommended. Sources of ignition should be avoided.
