Description of key information

Butylethylamine was ready biodegradable (>90% in 21days) in the ISO 7827 (Evaluation in an Aqueous Medium of the "Ultimate" Aerobic Biodegradability of Organic Compounds - Method by Anlaysis of Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) test. Model calculations predict ready biodegradation.

Additional information

Butylethylamine was degraded to >95% (day 5: 50%) in a Zahn-Wellens test for biodegradability, which is comparable to the OECD 302 B test guideline for inherent biodegradability. Thus, butylethylamine was shown to be biodegradadble (Hoechst AG, 1981).

Inherent biodegradation was also seen in two when DOC (dissolved organic carbon) was analysed in two non-guideline studies that were conducted according to ISO 7827 (BASF, 1990) and equivalent to OECD 302B (BASF, 1983).

The ready biodegradation of the substance was predicted in BIOWIN v.4.10 calculations resulted in the prediction that butylethylamine is readily biodegradable (GUBDH, 2011), and confirmed in ISO 7827 (Evaluation in an Aqueous Medium of the "Ultimate" Aerobic Biodegradability of Organic Compounds - Method by Anlaysis of Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) test, the decrease of the DOC was 90-100 % in 21 d (BASF, 1990), therefore the substance is considered as ready biodegradable.
