Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The effect of the test item on the respiration of activated sewage sludge micro-organisms gave a 3-Hour EC50 value of greater than 1000 mg ai/L. The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) after 3 hours exposure was 1000 mg ai/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The inhibition effect of test substance on the respiration rate of aerobic wastewater microorganisms of activated sludge was investigated in a 3 -hour respiration inhibition test . The method followed was designed to be compatible with the Method C.11 of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, the OECD Guidelines for testing of Chemicals, No. 209 "Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test" and US EPA Draft Ecological Effects Test Guidelines OPPTS 850.6800.

Activated sewage sludge was exposed to an aqueous solution of the test substance at concentrations of 10,100, and 1000 mg/l for a period of 3 hours at a temperature of 20°C with the addition of a synthetic sewage as a respiratory substrate.

In addition, two controls and three concentrations (3.2, 10 and 32 mg:l) of the reference substance were tested in parallel;

After a 3 -hour incubation time, the inhibition rates were investigated via a determination of oxygen consumption rates.
