Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 96-h ErC50 value of >1,000 mg/L and the 96-h NOErC of 500 mg/L in the freshwater alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata are used in the assessment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
500 mg/L

Additional information

A GLP-compliant OECD 201 guideline study with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (tested as: Selenastrum capricornutum) is available forPolyol IXOL M125(Solvay Duphar B.V., 1992d). Algae were exposed to nominal concentrations ranging from 125 to 1,000 mg/L under static conditions for 96 hours. The test concentrations were analytically verified andwithin 80% of nominal concentrations. The results show that at 1,000 mg/L the inhibition is 3 %. At concentrations of 125, 250, 500 and 750 mg/L the growth rate is not inhibited. Although the inhibition to the growth rate by 750 and 1000 mg/L appeared statistically significant, these inhibitions (0 and 3%, respectively) were considered to be of no biological significance. The 96-h ErC50 value is >1,000 mg/L and the 96-h NOErC is 500 mg/L (both based on nominal concentrations).
