- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance has a low octanol water partition coefficient and the adsorption potential of this substance is related to this parameter

Description of key information
Low adsorption potential expected due to log Kow < 3
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
According to column 2 of EC 1907/2006 Annex VIII the testing on “Adsoption/Desorption” does not need to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for adsorption (e.g. the substance has a low octanol water partition coefficient) or if the substance and its degradation products decompose rapidly. Based on log Kow ≤ 3 for 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate and its degradation products the potential for adsorption is quite low. Hence, testing of the adsorption and desorption attributes is not necessary.
However, to estimate PNEC sediment and PNECsoil by the equilibrium partitioning method data of the sorption behavior of 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate and its degradation products were calculated. Since measured sorption values are not available for the test substance or its degradation products, the Koc was calculated using the QSAR KOCWIN v.2.00 (Hopp, 2012). For 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate the Koc-values determined are 100.8 L/kg based on MCI method and 64.7 L/kg based on log Kow method. The corresponding log Koc –values are 2.00 based on MCI method and 1.81 based on log Kow method.
For the degradation products, the obtained Koc-values are 27.94 L/kg for the urea dimer and 18.6 L/kg for 2-aminoethyl methacrylate based on the MCI method and 26.67 L/kg for the urea dimer to 10.08 L/kg for 2-aminoethyl methacrylate based log Kow method. The corresponding log Koc-values are 1.44 for urea dimer and 1.27 for 2-aminoethyl methacrylate based on the MCI method, and 1.43 for the urea dimer and 1.0 for 2-aminoethyl methacrylate based log Kow method.
