Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Conclusion on classification

Classification related key information

Biodegradation in water: screening test: 87% (DOC) in 28 days (OECD 301B and EU Method C.4-C)

Log Kow: 1.72 (KOWWIN v.1.68) for 2 -isocyanathoethyl methacrylate

Acute toxicity:

- to Fish: LC50 (96 h) = 162 mg/L (nominal) for Pimephales promelas (OECD 203)

- to Crustacea: EC50 (48 h) > 113 mg/L (mean measured) for Daphnia magna (OECD 202)

- to Algae: ECr50 (72 h) > 97.4 mg/L (mean measured) for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (OECD 201)

Chronic toxicity:

- to fish: not available

- to aquatic invertebrates: not available

- to algae: NOEC (72h) = 97.4 mg/L (mean measured) for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (OECD 201)

Classification justification according to CLP

Based on the data above, 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate is considered to be readily biodegradable. The acute aquatic toxicity L(E)C50 is > 1 mg/L for fish, invertebrates and algae. Valid chronic toxicity data are available for the alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata with a NOEC > 10 mg/L. 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate does not need to be classified according to the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) and the Regulation (EU) No. 286/2011 (2ndATP).
