Key result
Temp.:
other: 25.0°C
Parameter:
kinematic viscosity (in mm²/s)
Value:
5.19

Three measurements were carried out at 25°C with the following results:

5.1892 mm²/s

5.1896 mm²/s

5.1898 mm²/s

Mean value: 5.1895 mm²/s

Conclusions:
The kinematic viscosity of nopyl acetate was determined to be 5.190 +/- 0.25 mm²/s at 25°C.

In accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, nopyl acetate does not meet the criteria for classification as an aspiration hazard. Although this substance is a low viscosity and mobile liquid, its chemical structure indicates a low potential for surface activity. In addition, there is no evidence of aspiration toxicity for this material from either human experience or from animal toxicity data and it is not a member of a recognized category of materials having aspiration toxicity potential.
Executive summary:

The determination of the kinematic viscosity was performed in accordance with OECD Guideline No 114.

The capillary viscometer was used.

Three measurements were performed at 25°C. The kinematic viscosity of nopyl acetate was determined to be 5.189 mm²/s.

Measured values at different shear rate

The results obtained at 20°C were the following:

Viscosities of the test item measured at 20°C:

Shear rate (1/s)  Viscosity (mPa.s)
 349.4  8.2
 583.1  7.7
 971.6  7.1
 1610  6.7

The results obtained at 40°C were the following:

Viscosities of the test item at 40°C:

Shear rate (1/s)  Viscosity (mPa.s)
 349.4 5.5
 583.1  5.0
 971.6  4.5
 1610  4.3

The viscosity was constant at all shear rates at both temperatures. The test item was thus considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

Measured values at a constant shear rate

Determination of the viscosity of the test item at a constant shear rate of 583.1 s-1

Temperature  Viscosity (1st measurement)  Viscosity (2nd measurement)  Viscosity (3rd measurement)
 20°C  7.6 mPa.s  7.7 mPa.s  7.7 mPa.s
 40°C  5.0 mPa.s  5.0 mPa.s  5.0 mPa.s
Conclusions:
The dynamic viscosity of the test item at 20°C and 40°C ranged between 4.3 to 8.2 mPa.s at a shear rate from 349 to 1610 s-1.
The test item was considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

The dynamic viscosity of nopyl acetate was determined to be:
- 7.7 mPa.s at 20°C ± 0.2°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1,
- 5.0 mPa.s at 40°C ± 0.1°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1.

In accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, nopyl acetate does not meet the criteria for classification as an aspiration hazard. Description of key information

The dynamic viscosity was determined with a rotational viscometer.
The substance can be considered as a Newtonian fluid.
The dynamic viscosity of nopyl acetate at a shear rate of 583 s-1 is 7.7 mPa.s at 20°C and 5.0 mPa.s at 40°C.
