guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
HPLC method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water

Key result
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
ca. 0.3
Temp.:
25 °C
pH:
7
Details on results:
The log Pow values oftest item components were considered to be less than 0.3 because the retention times of start and end of peak were shorter than that of the reference substance 2-butanone (log Pow= 0.3).

The retention times and the partition coefficients oftest item and reference item at 25 °C are shown as follows:

Name

Retention time [peak range] (min)

Conclusions:
The log Pow values of test item components were considered to be less than 0.3 because the retention times of start and end of peak were shorter than that of the reference substance 2-butanone (log Pow= 0.3).
Executive summary:

The objective of this study was to obtain the 1-octanol/water partition coefficient of Dye-2019. The study was carried out in accordance with OECD test guideline 117 – Partition coefficient (0-octanol/water), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method, in compliance with GLP.

The partition coefficient of test item could not be measured in an undissociated form because the test item has sulfonic acid groups. Therefore, this test was performed using the buffer solution of pH7.0 as an eluent. In a preliminary test, the retention times of test item components were shorter than that of 2-butanone (reference item, log Pow=0.3). Therefore, the retention times of test item components were compared with that of 2-butanone and then the log Pow values of test item components were evaluated in this test. The partition coefficient of the test item was determined to be <0.3 (pH7.0 at 25°C)

Description of key information
