Description of key information

The toxicity to the aquatic environment of 4,4’-isopropylidenediphenol, reaction products with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane, mono, di and triesters with acrylic acid (EC 948-054-2) was investigated by performing GLP-compliant short-term toxicity studies to freshwater aquatic invertebrates and algae, in accordance with Annex VII of REACH.

Algae was identified as the most sensitive species based on the outcome of the investigation with a 72h EC50 of >10,000 mg/L and a 72h NOEC of 1,000 mg/L. Considering that the lowest L(E)C50for 4,4’-isopropylidenediphenol, reaction products with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane, mono, di and triesters with acrylic acid (EC 948-054-2) is above 1 mg/L, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as Aquatic Acute 1; H400 in accordance with Regulation (EC) N° 1272/2008.

There is no available data on the chronic toxicity of 4,4’-isopropylidenediphenol, reaction products with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane, mono, di and triesters with acrylic acid (EC 948-054-2) to the aquatic environment. As the substance is being registered under REACH in the 1-10 tonnage band there is no requirement for information on long-term studies to aquatic species. Therefore the classification of the registered substance for chronic effects is based on the short-term toxicity of 4,4’-isopropylidenediphenol, reaction products with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane, mono, di and triesters with acrylic acid (EC 948-054-2) to the aquatic environment and its ready biodegradability. Considering that the lowest L(E)C50for 4,4’-isopropylidenediphenol, reaction products with 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane, mono, di and triesters with acrylic acid (EC 948-054-2) is above 100 mg/L, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification for long lasting effects to the aquatic environment in accordance with Regulation (EC) N° 1272/2008.
