Key result
Flash point:
10 °C
Atm. press.:
101.325 kPa

For the determination of the initial temperature of flash point measurement a screen test was performed with the test item. The sample was heated from 8 °C to 200 °C using 5.5 °C/min heating rate. Based on this preliminary test the flash point of Volan was determined to be: 13.4 °C.

In the course of the study three subsequent tests with the test item were carried out. The measured flash points of Volan were: 9.5 °C, 10.4 °C and 10.4 °C, resulting a mean value: 10 °C at 101.325 kPa.

Classification

The boiling point of the test item could not be determined due to decomposition before boiling, therefore, the boiling point of the solvents is used to classify the test item with regard to flammable liquids. The lowest boiling point of of the solvents is above 35 °C. Therefore, in consideration of this boiling point and the determined flash point of 10 °C, the test item is classified in Category 2 with regard to flammable liquids.

Interpretation of results:
Category 2 (highly flammable liquids) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The flash point of the test item was determined to be 10 °C at 101.325 kPa.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.9, EPA OPPTS 830.6315, ASTM D93, ASTM D6450, ASTM D7094 and UN method 32.4 to determine the flash point of the test item using a closed cup method with Pensky-Martens apparatus. For the determination of the initial temperature of flash point measurement a screen test was performed with the test item.
