Description of key information

Pidolic acid is white crystalline solid with a melting point of 161.9 deg C. The substance starts to decompose and boil at the same
time at 226.2 deg C. The substance has a mean Pour Density of 0.696g/mL and a mean Tap Density of 0.800g/mL. Using a Malvern Mastersizer 2000, the particle size has been determined and less than 10% of the substnace has a particle size below 15.629 µm. The mean Vapour Pressure of (2S)-5-oxopyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid is <2.0mPa at 25°C using 360L of gas flow through the column and <8.0mPa at 25°C using 72L of gas flow through the column. The mean Partition Coefficient of 1-0ctanol and Water of (2S)-5-oxopyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid has a Log POW of -1.234 (20°C. and pH4); Log POW of -1.233 (20°C and pH7) and Log POW of -1.211 (20°C and pH9). The overall mean water solubility is: 520.6g/L (pH4 at 20 deg C), 549.9g/L (pH7 at 20 deg C), and 517.9g/L (pH9 at 20 deg C). The mean Methanol solubility is 250.7g/L at 20°C and the mean Acetone solubility is 0.3130g/L at 20°C.

The substance does not self ignite below 200 deg C and is not considered highly flammable. The substance is not considered to be explosive or oxidising.
