Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Two key studies of Daphnia reproduction have been identified: these used close chemical analogues of pinene oligomers (phytoterpenes, one a direct analogue of the monomer unit within pinene oligomers). Both found significant toxic effects of long-term exposure: EC50 values were similar at 0.24 and 0.49 mg/l, and NOEC value were also comparable (0.12 and 0.27 mg/l). The lower NOEC value is taken as the key value for assessment.

Additional information

Although no long-term test data for pinene oligomers itself are available, data for two close chemical analogues are available. Applicability of these for estimation of pinene oligomers long-term toxicity is demonstrated not only by similarity of chemical structures and basic physical properties, but also by similarity of acute toxicity to Daphnia:

- pinene oligomers, 48h EC50 0.26 mg/l

- dipentene (racemic limonene), 48h EC50 0.70 mg/l

- beta-myrcene, 48h EC50 0.45 mg/l.
