Two DSC measurements in aluminium crucibles with a hole showed an endothermal effect after the melting in the temperature range of 145 - 235 °C. The melting temperature of 119 - 123 °C is known from the safety data sheet. No further endothermic effects were observed up to the final temperature (500 °C) but exothermic effects occurred above 300 °C. The mass loss amounted to 50% after the first DSC measurement and 14% after the second measurement. The second measurement was terminated at 260 °C to ensure that the endothermal efffect is the melting effect.

Table 1: Results of the DSC measurements

Test item / mg  Starting temperature / °C  Final test temperature / °C  Temperature range (endothermal) / °C  Onset (boiling) / °C  Crucible  Observations after the measurement
10.22   25  500  150 - 235  -  Aluminium with a hole  Black solid, 50% mass loss
 9.58  25  260  145 - 235  -  Aluminium with a hole  Dark red, solidified melt, 14% mass loss

The test item had no boiling point at atmospheric pressure. Decomposition started above the melting point at approximately 150 °C.

Conclusions:
The test item had no boiling point at atmospheric pressure. Decomposition started above the melting point at approximately 150 °C.
Executive summary:

The boiling point / boiling range of the test item was investigated by DSC measurement according to OECD 103. The study showed that the test item starts to decompose at a temperature of approx. 150 °C. No boiling point could be determined before the decomposition. The test item has no boiling point under atmospheric conditions.

Description of key information

The boiling point / boiling range of the test item was investigated by DSC measurement according to OECD 103. The study showed that the test item starts to decompose at a temperature of approx. 150 °C. No boiling point could be determined before the decomposition. The test item 4,4’-Dimethoxytrityl chloride has no boiling point under atmospheric conditions.
