Test guideline
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test O.3 (Gravimetric test for oxidizing solids)
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- Reference item purity is 79.1% in CaO2 instead of 75% ± 0.5%. For test item/cellulose mixture 4:1, the relative SD was >10%. Given the mean burning time of the mixtures, these deviations did not affect the quality or interpretation of the test results.
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)

Any other information on results incl. tables
The mean burning rates of reaction with the test item / cellulose mixture in proportions 4:1 or 1:1 were lower than the mean burning rate of reaction with the reference item / cellulose mixture in proportion 1:2.
Therefore, the test item was not considered as an oxidising solid following GHS terminology and was not classified in Division 5.1 and thus was not assigned to any packing group following the “UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria”.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- GHS criteria not met
- Conclusions:
- The oxidising properties of yttrium trifluoride were investigated according to the UN O.3 test method in compliance with GLP. The mean burning rates of reaction with the test item / cellulose mixture in proportions 4:1 or 1:1 were lower than the mean burning rate of reaction with the reference item / cellulose mixture in proportion 1:2. Therefore, the test item is not considered to be an oxidising solid following GHS terminology and is not classified in Division 5.1 and thus was not assigned to any packing group following the “UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria”.
