Reference
Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
July 14, 2008 - September 01, 2008
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.6315 (Flammability)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 2719 (Determination of flash point - Pensky-Martens closed cup method)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
A preliminary test was performed using the Pensky-Martens flash point tester to determine the range of the flash point. The heat was supplied at such rate that the temperature, as indicated by the thermometer, increased about 8.5 K/min. An attempt was made to ignite the vapour of the test item at each temperature that was a multiple of 5 K starting at room temperature. Because no flash point was determined in the preliminary test, no main test was performed with the Pensky-Martens flash point tester.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
closed cup
Flash point apparatus:
Pensky-Martens apparatus
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Batch No. 512051
CoA: Dr. Straetmans Chemische Produkte GmbH, June 16, 2008
Colourless liquid
Expiry date: December 2008
Key result
Remarks on result:
no flash point according to standard method

A flash point could not be determined. In a preliminary test, no flash point of the test item was detected up to 340 °C. At approximately 280 °C, the escaping smoke started burning at the ignition source. No flash point could be observed.

Conclusions:
A flash point could not be determined. No flash point of Dermosoft DGMC, reaction mass of 3-(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)-2-hydroxypropyl decanoate and 1-(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)-3-hydroxypropan-2-yl decanoate was detected up to 340 °C.
Executive summary:

The flash point of Dermosoft DGMC, reaction mass of 3-(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)-2-hydroxypropyl decanoate and 1-(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)-3-hydroxypropan-2-yl decanoate was determined using the Pensky-Martens closed flash point tester in a guideline study (EU method A.9, EPA OPPTS 830.6315 and ISO 2719) following GLP.

A flash point could not be determined. In a preliminary test, no flash point of the test item was detected up to 340 °C.
