JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance to REACH Annex XI Section 2, with reference to the guidance mentioned in REACH Art 13(3) the test guidance "ECHA guidance on Information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a Endpoint specific guidance" needs to be respected. This guidance (R.7.1.2.3) indicates that for substances that decompose or sublime before melting, the decomposition or sublimation temperature should be reported.

Comments: according to the Sponsor, the test item contains impurities (purity = 76.80%) that leads to the appearance of a “milky liquid” on reaching the melting point but it is not possible to determine whether a liquid state can be attained for a substance at a purity of 100%. However, it is impossible to prepare a test item more pure than 80% for stability reasons

Conclusions:
The mean melting point of the test item was in the experimental conditions:234°C ± 2°C.
Executive summary:

The aim of this study was the determination of the melting point of the test material.

The test procedure used was the EU A1 method and the OECD test guideline 102.

The apparatus for analysis was the Kofler hot bench.

The result was as follows:

the mean melting point of the test item was in the experimental conditions: 234°C ± 2°C.

Description of key information

Data waiving (study scientifically not feasible): In accordance to REACH Annex XI Section 2, with reference to the guidance mentioned in REACH Art 13(3) the test guidance "ECHA guidance on Information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a Endpoint specific guidance" needs to be respected. This guidance (R.7.1.2.3) indicates that for substances that decompose or sublime before melting, the decomposition or sublimation temperature should be reported.

Supporting studies: Data from handbooks:
Sodium chlorite decomposes below melting point at 180-200 °C.

Supporting study: Experimental results:
Test method according to EU A1 method and the OECD test guideline 102 (purity 76.80%).
The mean melting point of the test item was in the experimental conditions: 234°C ± 2°C.
