Description of key information
Tests performed by PSV (Rantala 1991) on Ferrochromium slag rinsing water showed no toxic effects. Tests performed on Ferrochromium plant waste waters by Pöyry (Väntsi 2008) and amorphous silicate (OECD SIDS evaluation 2004) showed no mortality among test species. Based on these tests it can be expected that Ferrochromium slag does not cause any toxic effects on aquatic invertebrates.

No PNEC's have been calculated for Ferrochrome slag. Based on the very low solubility of constituents of Ferrochrome slag, they are not relevant for the environmental hazard assessment of Ferrochrome slag.
