Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Determination of explosiveness is not relevant. The substance is a solid, inorganic, mineral material and it is in oxidized form and thus cannot burn. In fact the substance can be used at elevated temperatures as a component of refractory mass to protect from heat and flames. Ferrochromium slag products are put on a market and used as gravels and granules in particle sizes, which cannot form an explosive mixture with air. According to mineralogical studies metals in ferrochromium slag are mostly in oxidised form and free metal is encapsulated in spinels, so there is no possibility of metal dust explosion.
