Description of key information

Weight of evidence approach based on three peer-reviewed values from handbooks (175 g/L at 25°C, 240 g/L at 20°C and "very soluble") and one estimated value using the US EPA Epi Suite software (174.8 g/L at 25°C) was used to indicate the water solubility of propylene carbonate.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
200 g/L
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The four obtained values are in close range of eachother, although reported at a slightly different temperature. Propylene carbonate is concluded to be very soluble in water (> 10000 mg/L). The final value is calculated as the rounded up mean of the two quantitative values and reported at 25°C. One supporting value (240 g/L at 20°C and pH 7) is in conformity with the weight of evidence values.
