Description of key information

The log Pow of formaldehyde is determined to be 0.35.

According to Hansch and Leo (1995, as cited in HSDB) the experimentally derived log Pow is 0.35. This value is supported by the reported values in the publication from Smith (2000 and 2003) and online database of Yaws (2008). The Handbook of Verschueren (2001) report a calculated log Pow of -078. However, no data is provided on the applied method for calculation. The QSAR estimation performed with the EPIsuite KOWWIN model (version 1.68) in which the partition coefficient is estimated using an atom/fragment contribution method also resulted in a value of 0.35. Therefore, based on the verifiable data available (hence, the results from Verschueren are not taken into account) the log Pow of formaldehyde is determined to be 0.35.
