Tests on all three trophic levels (fish, daphnia, algae) were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of the described test item. Based on the low water solubility of the test item a saturated stock solution was prepared for the investigations with fish. No acute effects on fish were observed. Therefore, fish turned out to be less sensitive than aquatic invertebrates and algae, where EC50 values between 60 and 70 mg/L are determined. For the acute studies with aquatic invertebrates and algae, the test item was initially suspended in solubilizer. Nevertheless, small amounts of the test substance were not solved in the test vessels. Especially for filter feeders like Daphnia it is known, that particles can cause secondary effects. Hence, the result of the acute daphnia test was disregarded and long-term data were used for the assessment of the toxicity to aquatic invertebrates. In the long-term test with Daphnia magna the test item caused strong chronic effects on the reproduction of the waterfleas, with a LOEC of 6.4 µg/L (measured).
