Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The log partition coefficients for the rosin ester substances range from 2.44 - >6.5.

The log partition coefficient of Resin acids and rosin acids esters with pentaerythritol is 3.62 at 20°C and pH 5.86.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A study following the EU method A.8 (shake-flask method) was used as the key study (Chilworth Technology, 2010). The following partition coefficient result was obtained: Log P = 3.62 at 20°C and pH 5.68.

An additional supporting study is available for Resin acids and rosin acids esters with pentaerythritol conducted according to OECD 117 HPLC method (Water Quality Institute, 1993). The supporting study for Resin acids and rosin acids esters with pentaerythritol showed a difference as a function of pH, with partition coefficients of two components above 6 at pH 2, and of one component at ca 3.6 at pH 7.5. As the esters are not considered to ionize, hydrolysis at low pH into the corresponding organic acid may be suspected.
