Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Key study data are available for relevant physicochemical endpoint for the other lubricant base oils category. All substances in the category are liquids (CONCAWE, 2009) at ambient temperature (20°C) and pressure (101.3 kPa). There is no guideline method available for this endpoint and data presented are based on visual observation, supported by data on melting point/pour point. The melting point for chemicals in this category ranges from -60°C to 0°C (CONCAWE, 1997; 2010a) and the boiling point ranges from 200°C to 800°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). The density ranges from 0.81 to 0.97 g/cm3at 15°C and the vapour pressure is <0.1 hPa at 20°C (CONCAWE, 2010a).

Flash points for other lubricant base oils are generally >98°C (CONCAWE, 2010a).

The viscosity of substances in this category is > 2 mm2/s at 40°C (CONCAWE, 2010a; CONCAWE, 1984; CONCAWE, 1997).

Other lubricant base do not meet the EU CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008) classification criteria for flammability, explosivity, oxidising properties or aspiration hazard, and do not dissociate or form ionized species.

Based on information available on the properties of the substances that comprise the other lubricant base oils category of chemicals, specific data are not presented for the following endpoints: water solubility, partition co-efficient, surface tension, self-ignition temperature, granulometry, flammability, explosiveness, oxidizing properties, stability in organic solvents and dissociation constant. Appropriate waiving statements are provided to indicate why data for these REACH endpoints are not applicable. The physico-chemical data presented are considered representative for the substances included in the category other lubricant base oils.
