Description of key information

A hydrolysis study is considered unnecessary on the basis that Silicon Nitride has a low water solubility (<0.3 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with Annex VIII, column 2 of the REACH regulation, a hydrolysis study does not need to be conducted if the substance is highly insoluble in water. The measured solubility of Silicon Nitride (Huntingdon Life Sciences, 2012, study YVQ0012) was found to be less than 0.3 mg/L at 20°C; on this basis, Silicon Nitride is considered to be highly insoluble in water and a hydrolysis test is not considered justified.
