Description of key information

The 96 hr LC50 was found to be >100 mg/L. The NOEC was found to be ≥100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A short-term toxicity study in fish was carried out according to EC guidelines (guideline C.1. Acute Toxicity for Fish) and in accordance with GLP (ARC Seibersdorf research GmBH, on behalf of H.C. Starck GmbH, 2005). A static limit test in Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio) was conducted. The solubility of Silicon Nitride in water is very low, therefore an aqueous extract (loading rate 100 mg/L in water) was prepared to achieve a dissolved test substance concentration as high as possible. After stirring for approximately 24 hours and subsequent filtration the filtrate was used as the test medium.

Seven fish each were used for the test substance group and for one control group.

The results obtained, based on the loading rate, were as follows:

LC50/24 h, 48 h, 72 h, 96 h: all >100 mg/L

NOEC ≥100 mg/L
