Reason of exposure:
accidental
Exposure assessment:

Details on exposure:
A laboratory technician accidentally dropped a 30 mL flask of chlorosulphuric acid (which also contained chlorobenzene) into water, causing an explosion, which sprayed the reaction mixture into his face.

Results and discussion

Clinical signs:
The technician suffered blurred vision and breathing difficulties immediately, but he was still able to rinse his eyes with water within few seconds. The burns to the cornea and conjunctiva were limited to the opening between the eyelids. His eyelids were more severely burned, and subsequently underwent increasing swelling with the loss of patches of skin.
Effectivity of medical treatment:
However, healing began within two weeks, and the corneas showed only small areas of unhealed epithelium with slight oedema and occasional stromal vessels near the lower limbus. His vision returned to normal.
