Description of key information
Based on measured data, the water solubility of dec-1-ene, dimers, hydrogenated is considered to be <0.1 mg/L. As this is an unbounded water solubility value, a QSAR prediction has been included in order to give an indication of the solubility of dec-1-ene, dimers, hydrogenated. The calculated water solubility was determined to be 1 E-05 mg/L.

Measured water solubility data are available for dec-1-ene, dimers, hydrogenated. The following data are available for the substance itself.
Walker and Mullee (2006) measured water solubility of dec-1-ene, dimer, hydrogenated following OECD guideline 105, using the shake flask method. It was not possible to use the column elution method for this substance as the test material coats the glass beads forming a plug and preventing water circulation. In this study the concentration of test material in the sample solutions was analysed by gas chromatography. The amount of test material analysed in the sample solution was less than the limit standard used in the test. The water solubility of the test substance was therefore determined to be < 0.1 mg/L.
Dec-1-ene, dimers, hydrogenated is a member of the category Poly alpha olefins, which contains products that are made from the polymerization/oligomerization of alpha olefins. As the measured water solubility result for this substance is an unbounded value, additional water solubility data can be read across from other members of the Poly alpha olefins category in order to provide further information about the water solubility of the substance. Measured data are available following two different methods and both determine the water solubility of the test substance to be very low.
Hogg and Bartlett (1995) measured the water solubility of dodec-1-ene, dimer, hydrogenated following EU Method A6, Shake Flask method. The test material was analysed using gas chromatography. There was evidence of the presence of the test material in the analysed sample solutions but this was considered to be due to incomplete separation of excess sample from the saturated solution. Due to this, the water solubility is expressed as a limit value which takes into account test material detected in the sample solutions. The water solubility of the test substance was determined to be <0.13 mg/L.
Measured water solubility data are available for 1-dodecene trimer hydrogenated (Seary 2000). This study used the column elution method and a low pressure chromatographic technique was used for concentrating the test substance to determine its water solubility. The results of the test showed that no poly alpha olefin was detected in the eluent, the water solubility of 1-dodecene trimer hydrogenated was therefore less than the limit of detection and determined to be <1 parts per trillion.
Measured data are available following two different methods and both determine the water solubility of the test substance to be very low. As both studies report unbounded water solubility values, QSAR results are included for dec-1-ene, dimers, hydrogenated in order to provide an indication of how low the water solubility of the substance is likely to be. EPIWEB 4.0 (USEPA 2008) was used to calculate water solubility based on a log Kow of 10.09. The calculated water solubility was determined to be 1 E-05 mg/L.
Measured data for dec-1-ene, dimers, hydrogenated and for other category members indicate that the water solubility of the test substance is very low and therefore below the limit of detection for the test substance. A QSAR prediction for dec-1-ene, dimers, hydrogenated also indicates that the water solubility is very low.
