Adsorption / desorption

In accordance with REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex VIII, Column 2, an adsorption/desorption screening test does not need to be conducted because, based on its physicochemical properties, malic acid can be expected to have a low potential for adsorption (the octanol-water partition coefficient being low at -1.26).

Henry's Law constant

The Henry's Law constant value of 1.01E-7 Pa m³/mole indicates that the substance is essentially non-volatile from water.

Distribution modelling

Distribution in environmental compartments has been calculated using a Fugacity model, under the emission scenario of 1000 kg/h into each of air, water and soil compartments, according to Mackay, Level III. Distribution in various environmental compartments is estimated as: Air= 0.0%; Water= 26.4%; Soil= 73.6% and Sediment= 0.03%.

Soil and water were then found to be the major target compartments.
