Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Before the performance of the Grewer-oven test, the test item was dried for 72 h in the vacuum drying oven at 60 °C (residual moisture: 8.2 wt. %). The dried test item was stored in the desiccator until the peformance of the test.

The test item shows no exothermic effect up to 260 °C.

The temperature of the test item showed an endothermic effect in the temperature range 210 - 260 °C. Up to 260 °C no exothermic effect was observed. Above 260 °C the temperature in the test item wire-basket is slightly above the temperature of the reference item. The test item melts at 215.1 °C and therefore it is assumed that there is no test item in the wire-basket at temperatures above 260 °C. After the test the wire basket was empty. The measured temperature differences may be ascribed to uncertainities of the measurement. However, for an exclusion of the test item from class 4.2 "self-heating substances" the onset temperature in the Grewer-oven hast to be over 220 °C.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The test item shows no exothermic effect up to 260 °C.
UN transport classification: Due to these results the test item has not to be classified as "self-heating substance" of class 4.2 according to the transport regulations. EU-GHS-CLP: Due to these results the test item has not to be classified as "self-heating substance" according to EU-GHS/CLP.
