Additional information

The key study (Degussa, 2007) was performed in accordance with EU Method C5 and GLP and was therefore assigned a reliability of 1. The study assessed the ready biodegradability of sugar factory lime (SFL) at concentrations of 1000 and 2000 mg/L over a period of 5 days. The oxygen consumption of the test samples was measured and the degradation of the test material was determined to be equal to 6% and 8% for the 1000 and 2000 mg/L samples, respectively. SFL is therefore not readily biodegradable.

In a preliminary study, the chemical oxygen demand of SFL was determined to be 76.3 mg O2 per gram of test material (Degussa, 2007).
