A large data set of studies are available on calcium carbonate, both laboratory studies using test animals and human data reported in the public domain. These studies are considered to be relevant to SFL based on the fact that SFL is primarily composed of calcium carbonate and other calcium salts and hence the properties of SFL are governed by those of calcium carbonate. The toxicity profile of calcium carbonate and SFL in birds can therefore be predicted from that reported in the mammalian studies.
