Justification of read-across:

Hexylglycol is the parent compound and occurs together with the sodium salt of the submission substance identity.

Because of the structural similarities, it can be taken as a surrogate for evaluations.

In addition, in case of testing the substance in biological systems for effects, the pH of the test substance which is strongly alkaline needs to be adjusted. After this adjustment, the pH-neutral solution would largely correspond to n-hexyl glycol. Therefore, it is justifed to refer to n-hexyl glycol.

Conclusion on classification

Experimental data from acute toxicity studies show that the acute values (LC50/EC50) are > 100 mg/L. According to Chapter VI of Directive 67/548/EEC, EGHE would not be classified based on the low toxicity.
