Established company data on MSDSs states 2-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl) pyridine (CTF) to be a white crystalline solid at 20°C and atmospheric pressure. It has a characteristic odour with 50 - 100% recognition at 0.05 to 0.1ppm. CTF melts at 33°C and boils at 152°C. A flash point was determined for liquid CTF by the Pensky Martens Closed Cup Method to be 65°C at atmospheric pressure. CTF has a significant vapour pressure, determined to be 40mm Hg at 70°C. CTF is sparingly soluble in water and in dilute hydrochloric acid. It is soluble in most organic solvents and strong hydrochloric acid.
