Results - Main Study

During cooling an exothermic peak was observed between -35°C and -45°C. The effect was obtained due to crystallization of the test substance.

During heating an exothermic peak between -40°C and -60°C was observed. This peak was due to further crystallization of the test substance. After crystallization an endothermic peak was observed between -40°C and 0°C, which was caused by melting. The extrapolated onset temperature of the peak was -25.98°C.

 

With the second experiment similar results as with the first experiment were obtained. The extrapolated onset temperature of the melting peak was determined to be -25.29°C.

Executive summary:

Both freezing and melting temperatures of Aluminium chloride hydroxide sulphate (as aqueous solution) were determined according to OECD/EC guidelines, DSC method. Two assays were performed under nitrogen. Freezing was observed when cooling between -35 and -45°C, the reverse melting transition was recorded at ca -26°C.

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EC method and under GLP, is available. Therefore, it is considered as a key study. Both transitions were recorded, freezing was observed in a 10°C-range of temperature, melting occured as a sharp transition, so the single value was retained as key data for purpose of CSA.
