Description of key information

In contact with water the substance will hydrolyse slowly.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

N-Vinylformamide is susceptible to hydrolysis resulting in the formation of acetaldehyde (CAS 75-07-0) and formamide (CAS 75-12-7) as products.

Acetaldehyde is not susceptible to further hydrolysis (Harris, 1990).

Formamide is susceptible to hydrolysis resulting in the formation of acetate and ammonia (Wichmann, 2003) which are both not susceptible to further hydrolysis. In addition, formamide is readily biodegradable.
