Description of key information

N-vinylformamide is with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of N-vinylformamide to Daphnia magna was tested in a static test system performed according to the OECD guideline 202. At test termination after 48 hours an EC50 of 142 mg/L (nominal) was determined (BASF SE, 2010).

The acute toxicity study from 1995 determining Daphnia magna is obviously vulnerable: Since the highest substance concentration tested resulted in an effect of only 50 % immobilization the dose-response-curve is of course incomplete and the EC50 derived is highly questionable. Consequently, the results of this study were not used for assessment.
