Conclusion on classification

Based on all available data for daphnids, fish and algae, sodium diethyldithiocarbamate should be classified as H400 (Aquatic Acute toxicity Cat. 1; very toxic to aquatic life (very toxic to aquatic organisms) according to the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008. The lowest L(E)C50 value (48-h EC50 of 0.91 mg/L in Daphnia magna) is lower than 1 mg/L. It is expected that sodium diethyldithiocarbamate is readily biodegradable as it is for its structural analogue sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate. However, based on the available data for long-term toxicity in daphnids and fish, the substance should also be classified as H410 (Aquatic Chronic Toxicity Cat. 1, very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects).
