The weight of evidence is that the test item is a solid, and can be variously described as a brown powder (anon., 2018), a light gray/brown solid powder (anon., 1991) a dark gray to tan solid, and/or a grey to dark brown aqueous press-cake or dark brown powder (CRC, 1979 and IARC, 1982). The colour of the substance may vary in available sources. No significant odour has been reported in available sources. The different descriptions are dependent upon degree of processing and/or water content. Typically, the substance is a light gray/brown or brown solid (powdered solid or bulk solid).

 

The test item has a melting point of > 237 °C at ca. 101.3 kPa in an available melting point test to OECD TG 102 and EU Method A.1 under GLP. No definitive melting point or range could be determined based on test item decomposition at ca. 237 °C. The test item has not been observed or is not expected to be a liquid at < 20 °C.

 

The test item under the CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008: Annex 1, section 1 concerning the definition of gases, liquids and solids, does not meet the criteria as a gas or liquid. Therefore should be considered as a solid. For the classification procedure under Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 expert judgment indicates that the intrinsic properties of the test item indicate that the test item would be tested as a solid and for specific evaluations (e.g. Flammability – ‘pasty substances’) the test item would also generally be tested under the testing strategies concerning solids. As applicable.
