Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

REGISTRATION SUBSTANCE AND READ-ACROSS

The registration substance Penta-PSCA sodium and triethanolammonium salts, CAS No 1424148-97-9 is the salt of the corresponding acid Penta-PSCA, CAS No. 1424148-94-6. In aqueous medium the acid and the corresponding salt co-exist and their ratio to each other is determined by the pKa of 4.7 and the pH in the aqueous medium. For example at pH7 >99% is salt. This composition exists irrespective if the acid or the salt was introduced first in the aqueous medium. This means that substance data generated in aqueous medium can be used for the acid Penta-PSCA as well as for the sodium and triethanolammonium salt.In soil solid material and pore water co-exist and both species are available as well.

TERRESTRIAL TOXICITY

Based on the estimated Koc (EUSES 2.1, organic acids) of 162 L/kg sorption to sewage sludge in a STP is low and transfer of the registration substance to agricultural soil is limited. In addition the registration substance has a low aquatic ecotoxicity (see IUCLID Chapter 6.1) and a low ecotoxicity is expected for terrestrial organisms as well.Based in the facts mentioned before, terrestrial ecotoxicity tests are not warranted and it is justified ot calculate the PNEC soil from the PNEC freshwater by the Equilibrium Partitioning Method.
