Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

REGISTRATION SUBSTANCE AND READ-ACROSS

The registration substance Penta-PSCA sodium and triethanolammonium salts, CAS No 1424148-97-9 is the salt of the corresponding acid Penta-PSCA, CAS No. 1424148-94-6. In aqueous medium the acid and the corresponding salt co-exist and their ratio to each other is determined by the pKa of 4.7 and the pH in the aqueous medium. For example at pH7 >99% is salt. This composition exists irrespective if the acid or the salt was introduced first in the aqueous medium. This means that substance data generated in aqueous medium can be used for the acid Penta-PSCA as well as for the sodium and triethanolammonium salt.

PERSISTENCE ASSESSMENT

The registration substance is not readily and not inherently biodegradable (IUCLID Chapter 5.2.1). Therefore the 'vP' criteria of the vPvB / PBT Assessment is fulfilled.

BIOACCUMULATION ASSESSMENT

The registration substance has a measured Log Kow of 3.6 (see IUCLID Chapter 4.7). .Therefore the 'B' criteria for the vPvB / PBT Assessment is not fulfilled.

TOXICITY ASSESSMENT

The NOEC reproduction (21d) Daphnia of 1.25 mg/L is the lowest chronic toxicity value for the registration substance (see IUCLID Chapter 6.1.) and therefore the 'T' criteria for the vPvB / PBT Assessment is not fulfilled on the basis of aquatic ecotoxicity. But it is proposed to classify the registration substance toxic to reproduction e.g. according DSD 67/548/EEC T, Repro Cat. 2 (see IUCLID Chapter 7.8.19. Based on this classification for human health effects the 'T' criteria for the vPvB / PBT Assessment is fulfilled.
