Short term toxicity to fish

Based on the weight of evidence approach, the lethal concentration (LC50) value of 2-nitro-p-toluidine in various species of fish was found to range between 5 to 10 mg/L., with one study indicating an LC50 value of 11.1 mg/L. Thus, it is concluded that the chemical 2-nitro-p-toluidine shall exhibit aquatic toxicity to fish in the chronic category 2. The majority LC50 value of 5 mg/L has been considered for the chemical safety assessment.

Long term toxicity to fish

Long term toxicity (14 d) of 2-nitro-p-toluidine to fish was estimated to be LC50 = 3.989 mg/L.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate

The effective concentration (EC50) value of 2-nitro-p-toluidinein aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia Magna) in a 48 hr study based on mortality was estimated to be 1.111 mg/L. Thus, it is concluded that the chemical 2-nitro-p-toluidine shall exhibit aquatic toxicity to aquaitc invertebrate (Daphnia) in the chronic category 2.

Long term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate

Long term toxicity (96h) value of 2-nitro-p-toluidine to Chlorella pyrenoidosa was estimated to be EC50 equal to 4.995923 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The effective concentration (EC50) value of 2-nitro-p-toluidine in green algae in a 96 hr study on growth effect was estimated to be 6.326 mg/L. Thus considering only the value from CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance , it is concluded that 2-nitro-p-toluidine could exhibit short term toxicity to green algae in the chronic 2 classification category.

Toxicity to micro-organisms

The inhibition growth concentration (IGC50) value of 2-nitro-p-toluidine in microorganism (Tetrahymena pyriformis) in a 60 hr study on the basis of growth inhibition effect was estimated to be 67.2 mg/L
