Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A 72-h ErC50 and ErC10 values are 3.8 and 1.17 mg/L, respectively, based on ECOSAR prediction using the measured log Kow of 3.8.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
3.08 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.17 mg/L

Additional information

The acute algae ErC50 for the neutral organic substance Verdol is predicted to be 3.08 mg/l based on the ECOSAR SAR for neutral organics using a measured log Kow of 3.8, molecular weight of 156.27 and the equation: Log 96h-ErC50 (mmol/L) = -0.6922 log Kow + 0.9253. When using the predicted log Kow value of 3.42, the 96h EC 50 is 5.67 mg/l. The 96-h EC50 is considered equivalent to the 72h current exposure time in the OECD TG 201 test.
The chronic algae EC10 for the neutral organic substance Verdol is predicted to be 1.17 mg/l based on the ECOSAR SAR for neutral organics using a measured log Kow of 3.8, molecular weight of 156.27 and the equation: Log 96h-Chv (mmol/L) = -0.5583 log Kow -0.4017. When using the predicted log Kow value of 3.42, the 96h EC 10 is 1.99 mg/l. The ChV is considered equivalent to the EC10 in the OECDTG 201 test
Verdol is in the applicability domain of the ECOSAR prediction because: a) the substance is a neutral organic presenting the toxicity solely by its bioavailability (i.e. without fragments that activate this chemical class); b) its log Kow is 3.8 (=< 6.4); c) its MW is 156.27 (< 1000); and; d) the toxicity predicted is below its water solubility of 613 mg/l.
The measured and predicted log Kow values of the substance are 3.8 and 3.41, respectively and therefore present limited uncertainty as the log Kow difference is < 0.5. Also, the measured log Kow of 3.8 is used presenting a conservative value (a lower EC50).
This shows that the prediction is reliable and a Klimisch 2 can be assigned. In accordance with REACH Annex XI, the validity of the (Q)SAR is documented in a QMR for acute and chronic algae toxicity on neutral organics. The adequate and reliable documentation presented, further supports this prediction.
