Reference
Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
31 October 2019
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Justification for type of information:
Assessed using appropriate methodology.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Thermogravimetry
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Sample handling
An amount of 51.5 mg fine powdered test item was weighted into a ceramic sample holder.

Results of thermogravimetry
The exact amount of the test item was heated in the furnace of the equipment at atmospheric pressure. The velocity of the heating was 10 °C/minute in the range of 25-400 °C. The weight loss of the sample was measured by a thermobalance, the enthalpy-change was determined using combusted Al2O3 as reference material.
GLP compliance:
no
Remarks:
Conducted under non-GLP, but to appropriate methodology.
Type of method:
differential thermal analysis
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Test substance name: Isophthalonitrile
Chemical name: 1,3-dicyanobenzene
CAS number: 626-17-5
EC number: 210-933-7
LOT number: JB1906150101
Purity: 99.8 % (w/w %)
Appearance: Off white solid flakes
Manufacture date: 15 June 2019
Expiry date: 15 June 2020
Storage condition: Room temperature (15-25oC. below 70 RH%), protected from humidity
Safety Precautions: Routine safety precautions for unknown materials (lab coat. mask. gloves and safety glasses) were applied to assure personnel health and safety.
Key result
Boiling pt.:
>= 273 - <= 275 °C
Atm. press.:
101.325 kPa
Decomposition:
no

No significant weight-loss could be observed until the temperature reached 151°C. In the DTA curve a high intensity endothermic peak appeared at the range of 151-189°C, which could be assigned to the melting of the solid sample. Till melting, above 180°C, 3.5% weight loss could also be observed due to the sublimation. After melting 95 w/w % of the sample evaporated in an endothermic process at a quite narrow range. Based on the curve the boiling point was between 273-275 °C.

Conclusions:
According to the DTA-TG analysis, the boiling point of the test item is between 273-275 °C.
Executive summary:

According to the DTA-TG analysis, the boiling point of the test item is between 273-275 °C.
