Description of key information

Potassium lactate fully dissociates into K+ ions and lactate in aqueous environment. The transport and distribution behaviour of lactate in the environment can be understood in terms of the transport and distribution behaviour of lactic acid.

Based on unequivocally positive QSAR predictions (BIOWIN v4.10) and a supporting study investigating the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) lactic acid is considered to be readily biodegradable, and therefore potassium-S-lactate is considered to be readily biodegradable.
