As the boiling tube was heated at 10°C/minute, the sample was observed to darken at temperatures above approximately 266°C and there was an expansion of the material with a bubble formed at the base, indicating decomposition. When heating was continued beyond this temperature to 400°C, the sample continued to darken significantly and there was a greater frequency of foaming. At the end of the visual assessment the material was dark brown/black with a pale brown liquid at the base.

The resulting profile by DSC shows the melting endotherm at approximately 200°C and the onset of decomposition at approximately 300°C. During the DSC assessment, the test item was initially described as an amber crystalline solid and following the measurement the material had turned into a black swollen mass which had extruded out of the crucible.

Conclusions:
The boiling temperature of the test item, fatty acids lanolin lithium salts was not determinable as the test item decomposed at temperatures above approximately 266°C.

The boiling point of the test item, fatty acids lanolin lithium salts, was assessed in an experimental study conducted according to OECD guideline 103 (Dunning 2018).
