Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The results of four studies indicate that the read-across substance, decanoic acid, ester with 2-ethyl-2- (hydroxymethyl)-1,3- propanediol octanoate, would not be expected to cause acute toxicity in fish at its water saturation limit or water solubility limit. There are no studies available on the long-term toxicity of the test substance to fish, however, adequate controls are in place during production and use of the substance to ensure that the substance is not released to the aqueous environment.

The results of four studies show that read-across substance, decanoic acid, ester with 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol octanoate is not toxic to aquatic invertebrates at its water saturation limit or water solubility limit. A 15-day reproduction test with the same read-across substance showed no effects in the range of water solubility with an NOELR = 2570 mg/L (15 d) based on reproduction and immobilisation.

The results of two studies showed that read-across substance, decanoic acid, ester with 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol octanoate is not harmful to algae at its water solubility limit. The same read-across substance was shown not to be harmful to microorganisms with an EC50 (3h) and an EC10 (3h) > 10000 mg/L.

In conclusion, by read-across, heptanoic acid, ester with 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol pentanoate, is not classified for aquatic toxicity.
