Description of key information

Tartaric acid and its salts are not auto flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A collection of the self-ignition temperatures was performed for tartaric acid and its salts (i.e. monosodium, monopotassium, sodium potassium, sodium, potassium and calcium tartrate). As result, a value specifically referred to tartaric acid was found . This value support the non-auto flammability of the substance (i.e. it is > 400°C). Since the self-ignition temperature of tartaric acid is very high and taking into account the chemistry of its salts, it is believed that the tartaric acid salts should not behave differently.
