Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Data waiving:
other justification
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is found to be readily biodegradable and the applied test concentrations are in the range of concentrations that can be expected in the influent of a sewage treatment plant

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VIII 9.1.4 of EC 1907/2006 the testing is not required as the substance is readily biodegradable .
Furthermore, data are available from the toxicity control in the ready biodegradation test (IBACON, 2008). Within this test, a treatment containing the test itemat 103 mg/L and sodium benzoate was incubated, and 81% biodegradation was noted within 14 days based on ThOD NH4. After 28 days, 94% degradation was measured. Thus, the test item can be assumed to be not inhibitory to the aerobic activated sludge microorganisms.
